How to Register as a
Midwife in
New Brunswick

Registration Requirements - Canada

For Registered Midwives currently practising in another province, please contact the Registrar for an application form.

The following are required for registration as a midwife in New Brunswick:
  • Graduation from an approved Canadian midwifery education program
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam
  • Letter of good standing from your current regulatory body
  • Current certifications for:
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within one (1) year;
    • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within one (1) year; and,
    • Midwifery Emergency Skills within two (2) years.
  • Proficient in English or French
  • Clinical experience of a minimum of 60 births within the last five (5) years, including 10 home births.
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Registration fee
  • Employment with the Regional Health Authority in New Brunswick

Registration Requirements - International

For Registered Midwives currently practising in a country other than Canada, please contact the Registrar.

The following are required for registration as a midwife in New Brunswick:
  • Successful completion of a bridging program. Please note there are no bridging programs available in the Atlantic Region, including New Brunswick. For more information on where to apply, please see the Canadian Regulators Midwifery Council website.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam
  • Proficient in English or French
  • Current certifications for:
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within one (1) year;
    • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within one (1) year; and,
    • Midwifery Emergency Skills within two (2) years.
  • Clinical experience of a minimum of 60 births within the last five (5) years including at least 10 home births.
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Registration fee
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Employment with the Regional Health Authority in New Brunswick​​
