The Midwifery Council of New Brunswick
The Midwifery Council of New Brunswick (Council) is the governing and regulatory body that oversees the registration and practice of midwifery in the province. The Council protects the public by setting policies and standards of professional practice for Registered Midwives to deliver safe, ethical, and effective care.
The Council registers qualified, competent midwives to provide care to pregnant clients and their families according to it’s principles of the Midwifery Model of Care Policy, that includes:
Health and Wellbeing
Partnership
Professional Autonomy
Choice of Birthplace
Informed Choice
Continuity of Care
Collaborative Care
Accountability Evidence-Informed Practice
The Council, legislated in 2010 by the Midwifery Actand Midwifery Regulations, is responsible for: Regulating the profession of midwifery;
Establishing a code of ethics, standards of practices, and guidelines that are consistent with other Canadian provinces; and, Registering midwives, and ensuring their competence to practice with a yearly registration renewal. Governance as per By-laws.
