Qualifications of a
​Registered Midwife

Midwives are highly skilled and educated health professionals specializing in low-risk maternity care. Here are the qualifications required of Registered Midwives:
​
  • Graduation from an approved Canadian Midwifery Education program with a 4-year baccalaureate degree in midwifery with successful completion of the Canadian Midwifery Regulators Examination, or, if trained internationally, completion of an approved Canadian midwifery bridging program.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Midwifery Regulators Examination
  • Current clinical experience, within the last five (5) years, as per MCNB"s ​​Initial Registration Policy.
  • Current certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), and Midwifery Emergency Skills.
  • Maintain competence to practice according to Council’s Policy: Continuing Competency and Professional Development
    and renewal of registration annually.
